Johanna Mauk, O.D.
Dr. Johanna Mauk completed her undergraduate at Northwestern Michigan College with a Bachelor of Science degree. She then went on to Ferris State University where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry from the Michigan College of Optometry.
Dr. Mauk has experience in primary eye care, as well as ocular disease and contact lenses. She also has pediatric and low vision experience.
Married to Jeff, Dr. Mauk enjoys spending time with family and her Boston Terriers, Iris and Max, trying new recipes and riding both her road and mountain bike. She and her husband have recently purchased their first home in the Cheboygan area and look forward to becoming part of the Cheboygan community.
Ronald Mead, O.D.
Undergraduate: Central Michigan University, Ferris State University
Doctor of Optometry: Ferris State College of Optometry
Married to Lori, childen: Jason, Kristin, Cameron and Trevor.
Dr. Mead’s professional associations include the Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He serves as a Vision Source Adminstrator for Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Hobbies include: Golf, computer.
Peter Oppermann, O.D.
Grayling High School graduate with honors.
Bachelors of Vision Science: 1995 Ferris State University with honors.
Doctorate 1998 Michigan College of Optometry with honors.
Dr. Oppermann specializes in the eye health examination of patients of all ages, including the management of complicated eye disease as well as recommendation of all forms of eye wear.
He married and the father of two children, enjoys downhill skiing, hunting, boating, fishing and various other outdoor activities.
Dr. Oppermann is an active member of the Rotary Club of Gaylord, the Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He also serves as an Administrator for Vision Source of Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.

Dr. Slezak specializes in eye health examinations for patients of all ages, including complicated eye diseases. He also recommends all forms of eye wear.
Dr. Slezak is the JV Basketball coach for the Gaylord St. Mary Snowbirds. His professional associations include the Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
Kim Socolovitch, CPO
Kim is currently the office manager, as well as doing all preliminary testing, and the insurance billing for Cheboygan Vision Source. She began her career in the optical field working for Dr. Robert Merrick in 2002.
Kim is a Certified Paraoptometric and has attended Ferris State University’s Practical Training for Opticians program and completed Essilor’s ECP University’s Dispensing courses.
She looks forward to camping with her daughter Amy and husband Don, and enjoys looking for waterfalls every fall in the U.P.
Amanda has been on staff since 2010. Her duties include helping to choose the best frame and lens solutions to meet our patient’s needs, maintaining the frame inventory, adjusting and dispensing and testing for patients when necessary,
Amanda is has been American Heart Association CPR certified and completed the dispensing courses through Essilor’s ECP University.
When not working Amanda enjoys spending time with her family traveling and boating anywhere in northern Michigan. She has quite the pet farm that includes dogs, a cat and a pig!
Amy has been worked as an optician since 1999. She has also worked as an optical tech in an ophthalmology office and done contact lens training as well. At Cheboygan Vision Source she assists with the selection of eyewear as well as adjustments. Amy has completed the Essilor Appollo certification.
Amy attended North Central Michigan College for medical terminology , anatomy and medical billing.
Amy is married to Brian, they have 4 kids and 6 grand kids. In her leisure time she enjoys walking, boating, camping, reading, gardening, decorating for the holidays and spending time with her grandbabies.
Robert Merrick, O.D.
Dr. Merrick, who is originally from Wyandotte, MI, moved to Northern Michigan during his grade school years. He graduated from Onaway Area Schools in 1978. He attained his Bachelor of Science degree from Ferris State College in 1981 and went on to receive his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Ferris State College of Optometry in 1985. Dr. Merrick has been an active member of both the American Optometric Association and the Michigan Optometric Association for over 25 years. He has been very active in coaching youth hockey and has served on the board of Baraga Boosters in many key leadership positions. Dr. Merrick has also served as a member of the Cheboygan Board of Education.
Dr, Merrick officially retired in April 2017 when he sold his practice to Drs. Ron Mead, Pete Oppermann and Nate Slezak.
